H. pylori causes stomach inflammation and ulcers. The stool antigen test detects a current infection — unlike the blood test, which can stay positive after cure.
It is repeated at least 4 weeks after finishing treatment to confirm the bacteria are gone.
Preparation before the test
- Stop acid medicines (omeprazole and similar) two weeks before.
- Stop antibiotics four weeks before.
- Use a clean lab container and bring the sample within two hours.
